1. Do you need to have worked in retail to own a Darriwill Farm Franchise?
Darriwill Farm seeks businesses or individuals who have a strong passion for Gourmet Food and Wine combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to learn, a high level of commitment to customer service and the highest possible commitment to being involved in the business and to follow the systems provided by Darriwill Farm Franchising. Although retail experience is desirable it is not necessary.

2. How much does it cost to become a Darriwill Farm franchisee?
The investment required to open a Darriwill Farm Store varies, depending on the cost of acquiring the site, the condition of the site to be fitted out, the size of the proposed site and the extent of any landlord contributions that may be obtained.

A total cost of getting a Darriwill Farm Store fully operational including equipment, fixtures and fittings, stock, franchise fees, accounting and legal fees, and a suitable amount of working capital will range from $215,000 up to $320,000 if a site location has to be acquired.

3. What Systems does Darriwill Farm provide to their franchisee?
Over the past 10 years Darriwill Farm Franchising has developed a first class total retail central management system taking care of stock purchasing, invoicing, management, merchandising, marketing and logistics allowing our franchisees the ability to focus on the most important person in any business the customer.

Backed up with systems in the areas of staff recruitment, store experience and a financial performance management system second to none has been the reason for Darriwill Farms exceptional growth.

4. What fees are payable to Darriwill Farm?
An initial franchise fee of $60,000 and a project management fee of $10,000 is payable on every new Darriwill Farm store opened. Both the initial franchise fee and project management fee have been included in the total amount required to become a Darriwill Farm franchisee.

The franchisee also pays a weekly royalty fee of 6% of total sales and a weekly marketing levy of 1% of total sales. Additional fees are required in the event of renewal or an approved transfer of the franchise to another franchisee.

5. Does the franchisee have a say in what stock they sell?
All Darriwill Farm products are selected by the Darriwill Farm Product Selection Team. Each product must meet strict criteria in relation to uniqueness and quality to be considered suitable for addition in our product range.

The Darriwill Farm Franchisee Stock Management System currently allows franchisees the ability to localise store specific stock holdings and ordering, by using the latest store trends, along with their knowledge on the local store market and in store merchandising. This ensures that each stores stock holding is customised to meet the demographics and buying patterns of each stores particular local market.

7. How much money can I make as a Darriwill Farm franchisee?
The profitability of an outlet is dependant on many factors, including the quality of the location, competition, sales volume, rent, staffing and management, the amount of local store marketing conducted, the franchisees ability to network with the local community and the type and amount of financing.

Profitability is ultimately a matter within the control of each franchisee. Darriwill Farm will provide you with a great vehicle and tools but ultimately it is up to each franchisee to drive it!

8. How are the franchisees selected?
The goal of the franchisee selection process is to create long-term franchise relationships that will benefit both the franchisee and Darriwill Farm through the sharing of knowledge and resources. The selection process begins with the sharing of information via telephone contact.

An application Kit will then be emailed out and the applicant completes a detailed application form. A first interview will then be held to discuss your initial suitability and answer further questions that you may have about Darriwill Farm. Pending your suitability for a Darriwill Farm Franchise you will then be presented with our franchise documentation. This is followed by a second interview to answer any questions you may have in relation to the documentation. An in-store on the job experience gives the applicant a chance to evaluate our operational systems and give Darriwill Farm a chance to evaluate the applicant’s aptitude for retail and ability to service the customer and great a memorable in store experience for the customer.

The applicant will then have a final interview with the Directors of Darriwill Farm to determine final approval for the applicant. Final stages of the selection process include training for either the applicant and/or the applicant’s key operations manager.

At any point during the selection process, either party may decide that the process should not continue.

9. What training will I receive?
Training takes six to eight weeks and covers every aspect the business including product knowledge and meeting the producers, merchandising, customer service, store management, store operations, stock management, IT, marketing, human resources and the financial management of your business.

You training will also involve the franchisee developing a full business plan including their future visions, ambitions and expectations for their business. You will also develop a 12 month Local Store Marketing Plan. The training is broken down into classroom training and in store training.

10. Can I own more than one Darriwill Farm Store?
We encourage our franchisees to become multi-store owners and we currently have franchisees which own multi stores. A franchisee is required to meet certain Darriwill Farm criteria on the management and operational areas of their currant store before multi store ownership would be recommended and considered.
11. Does Darriwill Farm provide financing to franchisees?
Darriwill Farm does not provide financing.
Darriwill Farm can provide contact details of institutions that do provide finance for franchising. Darriwill Farm does not endorse or promote any of the listed institutions.
12. Will I be guaranteed a franchise in the market of my choice?
It can take between 4 and 7 months from the beginning of the selection process until a new franchisee is ready to acquire his or her store. Darriwill Farm cannot guarantee which store locations will be available. Priority is given to franchisees that have successfully completed all training and all other approval requirements.
